Amal leak
« on: 25.04. 2016 16:06 »
The float cover on my monobloc WILL.NOT.STOP. LEAKING. I have had it resleeved etc so all the gaskets faces have been trued. I have tried three different covers, I had two new gaskets and even tried a old one. But as soon as you turn on the fuel a constant drip starts and of course drips onto the HT pick up-not good.

I don't know monobloc carbs but it sounds like the float needle is not sealing.

Definitely leaking from the bottom of the gasket face. Its the float bowl cover plate and is secured with three screws

I've got one on my Atlas which is the same. I have tried everything to stop it. The best so far has been a liberal coating of fuel resistant sealer on the gasket.
I don't understand why this has happened after twenty years with no trouble.

The problem with these float chamber covers is they are too thin. Over the years they warp and its almost impossible to get them to seal. I've given up on a couple of mine and fitted float chamber extensions which are obviously much thicker so they don't warp. Problem solved immediately!

I seem to have three useless covers. Best get out the sealer then

I have fixed mine from weeping by wrapping the gasket "carefully" with Teflon thread tape the type used for gas fittings it is a bit thicker than the normal stuff, first face the body off where the cover fits on some thing flat (glass) and wet and dry emery paper and get the cover an flat as you can using a warding file especially around the 3 screw holes.
Be careful not to leave bits of Teflon tape floating around as it is the best thing to block up jets.
Cheers
