New member from Oz.
« on: 15.04. 2016 11:19 »
Hi all
Just a quick introductory note about myself.
I live in Tasmania at the bottom of Australia and have just bought my first British bike - a 1950/51 BSA A7 Star Twin.

I also own a 1958 Russian M72 which I restored a couple of years ago but this new bike I bought pretty well fully restored and is a running bike.

It needs a bit of a tidy up and I'll probably strip it down for a repaint in the future as it has been restored previously and the paint is starting to look a bit tired.
Mechanically its all been rebuilt so I intend to get some riding in before I do anything too rash.

Anyway look forward to participating in the forum in the future - I've already found it to have a wealth of knowledge with manuals, frame and engine numbers and heaps of other useful info.

Regards from Tassie

Chris.

Hi Chris.
Beautiful bike.
What do you know of it's history that you can tell us?
I love that bit.
Have fun on those great  Tassie roads.
I agree this forum is a great source of knowledge so thanks to all.

Thanks for all the welcome notes guys - much appreciated.

Well found a few minor issues with the bike - petcocks had no filters so quite a bit of gunk in the carby filter and the bike started starving for fuel - pulled the fuel pipes off the carby and one was almost completely blocked and the second was just a dribble.
Anyway cleaned it all out - flushed the tank and pulled the carby apart for a thorough clean and all good again.

I also wasn't happy with a couple of bad paint bubbles in the tank - no rust just a bad paint job I think so I pulled the tank off, stripped it back to bare metal and gave it a fresh coat of paint.
Thought I'd have a go at pinstriping it as well which is a first for me but all in all it came out pretty good.
Just waiting for new tanks stickers to turn up then a few coats of clear and a good polish and she'll be good as new.

Will give the bike a full respray soon as Winter is nearly here in Oz so not much riding for 3 or 4 months anyway.
Will update with some photos as I progress.

Chris.

G'day Chris.
Very well done mate. I'll send my tank down.
I've never been to Tassie but I didn't think it got that cold!
Cheers

Gets pretty chilly in Winter, I think our June average daytime  temp is around 9 Deg - plus wet and windy and I'm a wimp so all things considered good time to work in the shed and get the bike ready for the spring.
