hi,drew
looks wrong to me ,as i understand it the hole in the bolt should line up with the slot in the castle nut, then the pin goes through. It looks from the photo that the pin is sitting on top of the nut and not in the slot.ie the bolts look too long!

Or is it just the angle of the photo?

No, thats no good.

The nut neeeds to be higher up so the split pin goes through the "slots" in the nut, the idea being that the split pin stops the nut from undoing.

Something is not quite right, the bolts could be slightly too long or the nuts could be the wrong ones. I'm not sure but I seem to remember the nuts for these have a flange on the bottom which acts as a washer.

Finding the correct bolts and nuts for these motors could be a bit difficult so you need to place a washer under each nut to get the slots up to the correct height. If you undo a nut and wind it up until the pins slides through the slots in the nut and the hole in the bolt and then measure how thick the washer would need to be. Once you have done this head off to a engineering shop and get some hardened washers the correct thickness.

A bit of messing around but this part of the motor needs to be right, you dont want these particular bolts to come loose !

Drew,

Are these new bolts and nuts? I would be concerned that bolts that are too long might come in contact with the bottom of the crankcase. Do the bolts protrude beyond the flywheel when the rods would be at bottom dead center? Then, does it appear to anyone else that the cotter keys seem too large? One option you might think about is readily available lock-nuts for connecting rod bolts. That way you don't have to line-up a key with castellations, thus allowing you to hit the torque setting you want.

I think the cotter pins are to big I did get a size smaller but I cant find any reference as to what size they should be it does not look right to me either maybe I will just hunt down the lock nuts and be done with it..

I think Brian hit the nail, the nuts should have a base washer built in. The split pins also need to be turned 90 degrees so the head fits in the slot of the nut, then one leg is bent over the bolt, the other leg cut short.
I too prefer the locking type nuts for accurate torque setting. PLEASE don't cut corners in this area.

Draganfly list the castellated nuts with a base flange included.
