Handlebars required for RGS
« on: 18.01. 2009 12:39 »
Hi All,
I am looking for a set of low (say almost flat) bars to bolt in to the handlebar clamps on the top fork yolk.

A firm has previously supplied a set to me, but I cannot get them into a comfortable position. When nearly flat, the grips face at the wrong angle and they are very uncomfortable. I think I have been sold a dud!

A friend suggested the bars i require are called "Ace" bars? Would Unity Equipe have what I require?

Any suggestions or advice gratefully received.

Thanks,

Richard.

Hi Richard,

I am not quite sure what you are looking for. Ace bars are a bit like clip ons, but not quite so low, a kind of compromise. I would think you would need some kind of pull back or as you say, uncomfortable on the wrists.
RGS's originally had a kind of downturned bar or clip ons as an option. I think the downturns were literally that, the original bars turned upside down.
Might be worth emailing  C and D auto's. They do know their stuff.

Gday Orabanda,
Give Mike Reilly a call  (07 38040055 - business hours)
41°C hey! Do they still drink Emu in the wild west (where men are men & camels are afraid) or did the brewery go broke after polishing off the handful of gentlemen who swore by the stuff.
I could go one now - its 28° here, Cheers

i have ace bars on my recently aquired RGS replica, which can be seen in the pics i have posted today.these are a real improvement on clip ons in terms of comfort and also look great.i think the original RGS had standard bars turned downward but somehow dont look just right to me.

Hi Richard.

The RGS bars were standard bars turned upside down as mentioned, me brothers RGS back in the mid 60's had a bang and the bars were replaced we purchased the standard bars and inverted them, this was identical to what was fitted to the bike before his accident.

Just like the attached pictures

Hope this helps!
Kind Regards
Steve Rickman

Oh yes and i forgot to mention, i meant Standard UK bars! Like the ones below these are available from people like Burton Bike Bits.
http://www.burtonbikebits.net/handlebars.htm

Ace bars are shaped like a U around the headstock, with the bars then coming back at an angle to give the impression of Clip ons (without acutally being clip ons) i have found a picture for you ....

Hope this helps

I'm quite impressed by the Norman Hyde 'M' bars.
A friend has them fitted to his W650 Kwaka and swears by them.
I've also seen them on one of the new triumph twins
They look very good fitted upside down and would suit a RGS admirably, I think.
cheers
