Zitman,
On the carb issue check the size of the pilot jet.I am running the same set up as you but during the recent cold weather I have suffered the same problem.I checked my pilot jet and it was a 25 when it should be a 30.Runs a treat now.

ncpierce:  The paint is round my mates workshop.  I will check the tin tomorrow and see if there is a code or colour name on it.  I got it from Jawels and from what I remember it is a Mazda colour from the 70's but I will check it out and let you know.

BSA500: I have got the carb off the bike and am taking to our local British bike expert tomorrow so I will check the pilot jet and if necessary will get one from Shepton Mallet on Sunday when I pick up my new clutch from George Prew.

BSA500:

The Colour is Toyota Altair Metallic Green  form 1972.  The only colour code I can find on the tin is 601. Hope that helps

Thanks for that.

That was the colour name that I had found when searching the net - it certainly looks "right".

I will pop down to the paintshop and see what they can do.

Hi Andy,

I got a clutch from George Prew but he was short of the spring cups so I am unable to start the bike at the moment.  The carb is rebuilt with the correct jets so once the clutch bits arrive I will let you know.

Pilot 25 Needle 106 Main Jet 290 which would need changing.

Hi all,

Got some spring cups locally and assembled the clutch, had a slight problem with it catching the inside of the primary cover but "fettled" that.  Got 10 yards before the clutch failed!  The centre nut had come loose.

Took it all apart again tightened the centre nut with an impact wrench and bent the tab washer again.  Got about 1/2 Mile this time before the same thing happened!

Apart again, used some thread locker and gunned it up real tight.  Have done about 4 miles and all OK so far.  The carburation seems fine, it ticks over well and revs cleanly.

Even the dynamo seems to work!

Just got to sort the gearbox out now and its off for MOT.

Cheers
