Kevin,
I would guess that it is a 1957 Super Rocket engine. Possibly Road Rocket.
In 1957 Super Rockets were first manufactured in the EA7 frame, went to North America I think.
The best way to determine what it is is to check the crankshaft.
If it has 3 bolts holding the flywheel on, it is SR. If it has the heavy crank with no radial bolts, it is RR.
This assuming that it is all original.
The stamping "HHC" on this engine brings into doubt the claims over the years that the second "H" denotes a 357 camshaft.
It would be very interesting to pull this engine down.
Did you get it in the deal?

well it has a 356 cam, pistons with a very high dome and grooves all around the skirts,  no bolts on the crank and as i was reading on another post there is a date code on the bottom of the cases  6 1 57     the cases are a matched pair as they have the same numbers on each side at the front, dont know about the head yet or what to look for, cylinder is 67-1210
in the boxes of bits with the bike and 2 engines was a 357 cam, a TT9 carb, a pair of carbs 386/324 and 386/325 with only one float bowl,
6 wheels and a complete front end with a finned gold star hub i believe ( small holes and larger ones that you could knock out)
i find this all very interesting finding out about all these parts

Kevin, is it a small journal or large journal crank?

The LJ has three bolts radially around flywheel the SJ has six around the inside of the flywheel.

How about the RR crank which has no bolts, Musky?
It is large journal.

Kevin, measure one of the big end journals and I'm sure that we can work it out.

The TT carb is a nice option, being a racing carb beautifully made with proper metals.
And a lovely bit of bling too.

Looks like I'm headed for the corner with a pointy hat. I think my SJ pic is one of those RR cranks. Doh.

intake valve 67-958
ex valve       67-957
theres a good bit of corrosion in the head so i guess i will make this engine a static display engine for my shop, doubt ill be allowed it in the house
