New Member - 1951 Golden Flash
« on: 14.03. 2014 11:22 »
Hi there!

I'm a new member - I have a 1951 BSA Golden Flash.

First registered in 1954.

Love to get a side stand for it, anyone know a good one to get?

Many Thanks!

G'day Zak,  *welcome*.
Nice looking bike mate. How long have you had her? Did you restore her.

Hi Zak,

Lovely looking bike. You must be really proud of her;-). Side stands (the real deal) are rarer than hens' teeth. The last time I came close to one was on Evilbay and I was outbid at £200. I was actually bidding  on a Golden Flash stand side stand but it was for my B31. There are replicas on the market , just be careful of the cast iron ones.

Hi Guys!

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Iv mastered the stand thing now :-)

Just takes a little way and it's easy now.

I never restored it, i purchased it like this .. And it's in great shape!

My only problem is getting her started once stopped!

Bloody nightmare.. Takes about 5 mins sometimes and that can't be right ? Can it?

Do you guys switch off the fuel every time you stop and park for a bit?

Do you keep reserve fuel switched off or on for starting?

Thanks for your help on this as it's a nightmare spending 4-5 mins kicking away like a crazy mule.

:-) Zak

Hi Zac
There is usually a knack with starting them reliably

As I have said before on another post both mine are very different.
The A7 has no choke (it has one fitted but will not start with it on), main petrol on ,tickle till finger wet tiny, bit of throttle and just kick. First time every time *loveit*. Problem when cold is she will not tick over and still will not take any choke. She is fine when warm and same procedure applies.
The A10. When cold full choke, main petrol on tickle till finger wet, use kick start to push just past compression on any side, no throttle and kick. Again first time every time and ticks over on choke  *loveit*. When warm same procedure but without any choke. She can be a bit of a pain when between temperatures.
I think you just need to find your procedure, assuming she run OK at all other times.

Hi Angus,

Can I ask us the choke the silver tap that pulls out ?  And I assume tickle is that the bleed button?
Do I never touch the reserve fuel tap?

Thanks
Zak
