beware, fiber washer
« on: 25.03. 2014 06:45 »
Striped my carb and cleaned it out engine started ok before i did it, put it all back together won't start plugs don't get wet after checking the plugs and trying different positions with the choke the penny finally dropped, bloody fiber washer on the pilot jet when the carb is on the bike the pilot jet is hard to get a screwdriver to it so when unscrewing the jet after a few turns out the fiber washer decides to come with the jet after being stuck to the carb this is all well and good but on replacing the jet and the fiber washer is still where it is half way up the jet NOW THIS IS THE BIT the washer tightens the jet up before the jet is fully home so when you put the end cap on it goes tight up to the bottom of the jet stopping the fuel getting through hence wont start (unscrew fiber washer before replacing jet).
good look

G'day Derek.
It is hard sometimes trying to describe things.
It's also hard to remember what each member (there's a few hundred) has eg, model, A10 or A7, type of carb, hubs etc.
I got the gist of what you said. Funny (not) how a little thing like that can create head scratching  *pull hair out*.
Glad it's sorted.
Cheers

Hi Derek, I understood it perfectly and obviously a Monoblock carb' as the early concentric had the pilot jet inside and above the float bowl, later ones didn't have the screw in pilot it had the orifice in the passageway and couldn't be changed. Am I right guys? Cheers. Gerry
