Road Rocket Carb
« on: 29.08. 2013 08:22 »
A friend has just bought a 57 Road Rocket.

It is fitted with a TT carb and is very difficult to start and simply will not tick over. Can somebody advise what size monobloc would be a suitable direct alternative and what jet, slide etc would be required?

Thanks

Andy

Andy,
The TT has no provision for "tick over."
However, there has been some discussion on Brit Bike Forum about GP carbys on Spitfires and a modification to the slide which allows tick over. It involves drilling a very small hole in the side of the slide, on the cylinder head side, from memory.
This should work OK on the TT.
As to the hard starting, are you sure that it is a carburetor problem?
If he really wants to fit a Monobloc, have a look at the Super Rocket specs.

Thanks for the replies.

Looks like a 1 1/16" 376/97 or 376/1 will do the job, 250 or 240 main jet being the only difference between the two.

Unfortunately, Amal have a manufacturing problem with 1 1/16" bore 376's and knowbody has any at the moment.

Could use a 28mm concentric? Probably a better carb but would not look right!

Is there anybody who has a Road Rocket who has fitted a Monobloc who can advise?
