nacelle rubbing on the fork oil seal holders
« on: 23.04. 2013 20:13 »
Hi guys
Is there a way of adjusting the 1960 nacelle so it does not rub on the fork oil seal holders. The left hand side is fine with good clearance. The right rubs on the outside edge.
I tried loosening every thing and then bouncing the forks but no joy. So I put a washer between the bottom yoke and the front of the nacelle which the pinch bolt then goes through to try and hold it away. It’s a little better but still rubs further down and towards the front of the holder.

*sad2* try going the Triumph way! If you can locate a thunderbird parts manual it will show a foam(?) spacer which fits on the fork tubes a nd holds the narcell covers concentric to them - like a big round foam rubber washer. Dont know the size but should be easy to make from one inch thick old thong rubber etc.   Good luck    Bob.

To stop mine rubbing i put wooden lolly sticks aka tea stirrers between the seal holders and shrouds, the did the bolt up, it stopped rubbing, for a while at least!

Edit, forgot to mention take the sticks out after doing the bolt

I had exactly the same with my 1960 trousers rubbing the seal holder. Manual manipulation sorted it for me in two seconds. In other words, grip the offended trouser leg with both hands at the bottom and pull it away from the rub. It will flex a bit but then clear, at least mine did.
