Good idea ? (videos)
« on: 11.03. 2013 02:19 »
Hi fella's. just had a thought, don't know if it would be possible or even a good idea but....
How about a video section on the forum where people could add a YouTube link of videos of work they've done on or doing on there bikes for instance how to tune, cylinder head removal/refit, bottom end overhaul(make jobs easier for me if i could see how it was done) or if they've been out for a spin and got a clip. all the videos would be in one place, what do you guys think ?.
All the best Chicago
Location: north west madchester.
Preferred location: somewhere warm and dry.
Bike: 1953 plunger Longstroke engine.

Good idea. And could even have hosted videos here but streaming videos needs expensive\fast servers, lot's of hosting space + high bandwidth (it's already at load here just dealing with the the high number of picture attachments), the forum does not have the fundings, maybe up to 50x or 100x the current monthly expenses if there was to be lot's of video activity! So youtube is the way to go.

It's instantly possible to make a dedicated board for all links to videos uploaded on youtube \ vimeo \ etc. by members (could have categories: tech, fun, trips etc). Seeing more members' videos about bikes, repair, maintenance, traveling etc would be very nice. So, some feedback about it, and I'll make the board.

Thanks
e

Thinking about this.  *smile*
Another idea..........Is it possible to number each post in a thread?  It would make referencing an earlier post a lot easier.
An example of this could be:-
I think chicago had an interesting idea in post 1, but as E suggests in post 2, feedback from others is welcome.
I think this would help in longer threads when a member has multi posted and you want to pinpoint one particular post for reference.
Perhaps it might be Metalflake had a stupid idea in post 3? *eek*

I'd agree it's a good idea, video's generally are easier to follow than written instruction so would be very helpful, wouldn't want to add to admins and moders workload though as they do a lot for us already.

anyone who might want to keep a video they see on you-tube or elsewhere here is a good program I've used and upgraded without any virus problems

atube-catcher.dsnetwb.com/video/download.html

also allows you to save in other formats, I believe it's all above board usually videos wont download if their owners fix them so

Edit & rewrite:
As a reference, it's there, see attachment. But not readily available as a clickable link.
If one needs a link, right click the Re:* and copy\paste the link.

And it's a little confusing, cause this is reply 6, but total posts is 7 (incl. the opening post). They should just have made the counting from 1st post, not starting with 1st reply.

Now, back to the video dept, I'll make a new board after reading some more opinions about the why's and how's.

1. the opposite of instructive - members with a problem could demonstrate it with a video, a picture paints a thousand words sort of thing

2. Nutely blue - perhaps not ;)
