First ride!
« on: 13.03. 2013 17:14 »

Yo Beeza buddies, I'm buzzin!
Today I rode my 1955 GF around the block, (I used the short gap between some light snow showers that are passing over at the moment).
The bike was last ridden, by me in 1974 and I have not ridden a m'bike since about 1977. I was a little nervous getting on a heavy motorbike again beforehand, but once I got going I soon relaxed. I'd forgotten how much low down torque these bikes have:  it's like a flippin diesel engine!

Earlier I visited my local vehicle licensing office to get a road tax disc. No hassle, no MOT, (the UK's roadworthiness test) certificate required as the bike predates 1960 and free road tax. Brilliant!

Thanks to everyone who contributed answers to my questions while rebuilding the bike. I'm sure I'll be needing more help later.

I'll add my "well done" as well - now try and look serious, neighbours get suspicious of permanent grins
All the best - Bill

Thank you everyone for the nice comments. The old girl; Emly, (from registration letters EML) and me have waited a long time for this and we plan to enjoy it. I'll take some better photos when we have some sunshine and see about uploading them here. I live near the famous Malvern Hills so should be able to get a picturesque backdrop for the bike!

PS: I started to add up my rebuild expenses on the bike during last year but stopped when the sum exceeded £3k!

Heya Neil, It's your thunder and I'm not gonna steal it, but I got mine rego'd today too, I'm real happy for you and as you said ....-um what ever it was- I agree, torque you too-
Would be still out trekkin around, but had other stuff to do, took it over to show my youngster first, and realized on the way needed fuel, also realized it's 30years this month that I last paid rego on it, but not the last time I rode it (shh- up the country- some kind of 'private property'  ;))

more somewhere else later , cheers folks, duTch
