Well mainly cost as the rest of the carb is in good condition. Also I had a re sleeve done years ago when the A7 was iron head spec and was impressed by the improvement for cost ratio(can't use that carb except as a stand in as its 15/16 not 1")

If going for a re-sleeve, might be worth trying to get a hard chromed brass slide if the coffers can run to it, Amals were doing them a year or so ago, might be worth checking.

Hi All,
Re, reconditioning carbs,
Sleeving the body to accept standard slides is a lot more expensive than either adding a sleeve of suitable material to the existing slide or fitting an oversize slide, I have been told that ordinary mild steel is best for sleeving mazac carbs/ slides, I have not tried this yet though,
The sleeve can be epoxied onto the original slide

Oversize slides for pre monobloc carbs are sold on ebay by a seller B561

Fit a new needle jet and needle at the same time

Sort of started getting this fixed. I have put the 15/16 inch sleeved carb I had from running the iron head. It was running really rough and trying to cut out half way to work, strange thought i must be the carb. So stripped it down at work(good job they are easy to work on  ;)). Strange again no problems then checked the plugs and found the bike had decided to kill a plug at exactley the same time I changed the carb typical *conf*. Runs fine now but still has a little stutter as you accelerate but not as much as the worn carb.
