Parts Wanted, 53 Plunger

Hi,
This may seem a bit weak but I am after a tank knee pad set in black for my 53 plunger, the type that sits out from the tank with a metal bracket behind it. If the picture is attached (fingers crossed) I want it exactly the same as the one shown. I am now the proud owner of 2 sets of knee pads that i was assured by the sellers were the correct ones and after arriving in Spain were wrong!!!! and of course the postage back they will not cover etc etc.  I am also after a good 12 volt battery and a plastic battery carrier, and the two exhaust baffles, any suggestions.

This may sound easy but like everything in life it is never straight forward, I live in the country side in Spain on solar power and I am operating on a dongal that is both slow and I cannot down load anyhing or I will use its memory very quickly!!! anybody feeling sorry for me yet??

All help greatly appreciated

had the same problem with the knee pads (have the tank without the central screw). Finally got the suitable pads as M20 pads on ebay uk !

Bikemad,
                    If you ordered knee pads for a 1953 Plunger tank, you wouldn't get what is shown.
Those pads were only used until 1952.

Hi Trev, Now that is beginning to make sense, god knows what has happened to this bike in its sad life but I have also just recently found out that the engine I have with it also left the factory in 52, not the one listed on the buff log book when it was registered in 53???  

Like I said earlier nothing in life is ever straight forward.!!!

If you take the inspection cap off the primary cover and get a torch and look inside, stamped vertically alongside the chain tensioner you should see a date stamped. If the date is in the last three months of 52' the bike is probably a 53' model.

Other indicaters of a 53' model are rubber mounted fuel tank and a sidestand.

Hi Brian, just had a look and it has the following numbers stamped 5-10-50, which I think also does not make sense has the engine has a number ZA10 543?. Which when I looked it up suggested it left the factory in 52....  God this bike is testing my patience, This is why I had asked on the forum previously about registration, it all does not make sense.....

If your engine number is in the 5000 series, the bike is a 1951 model as the date stamp confirms.
How about the frame number?

Hi Trev, frame no is BA 75677!

Now what year is this going to make it?

On the log book it was first registered 22 May 1953!!

BA7 frames date from 1953.
Looks like the engine has been replaced at some time.
As Brian mentioned, rubber mounts on the tank were fitted from 1953 on the BA frames.
The kneepads are different as pointed out, not sure if the mounting hole centres are the same.
The pads have different steel inserts for the different shapes.

Thanks Trev, makes things more understandable, have got the tank rubbers ordered, at the mo I am searching for a battery box a battery and the two rear baffles. Hopefully then I will get them and a cylinder block that I have in England brought out to Spain next week and then I can start to put i all together.

Anybody go any tips for a good battery?. I am changing it across to neg earth and 12 volt.
