Which Amal have I got
« on: 15.10. 2012 17:30 »
My new bike ( Flash 1954 ) is fitted with a Mk 1 concentric amal. Starts and runs very well, not ticking over well when cold but fine hot. I noticed that the choke is missing ( air valve ) cable spring etc. I intend to order the correct parts from Hitchcocks. However which model do I have, it is stamped 626 and L301 on the kickstart side. Do I have a 900 or 1000 model.

Many thanks

Colin

It's not supposed to idle well when cold.

I also routinely discard the choke bits on these bikes as they are not needed if you tickle the carb. as that gives you a richer mixture anyway.

Ain't that the truth, started mine last sunday after completing the front end refurb ,second kick after 6mths ,not bad  but almost immediately had to whack the choke off ,she didn't like it or need it at all and it was quite cold , a couple of blips and was smooth again , regards bobH

hi fella, re-tickover, my bike would never tickover slowly no matter what i tried, but i read on here about plugging off the two holes on top of the carb where the slide choke cable and screw goes thru and since i have blocked the holes my bike ticks over really well. all the best, chicago
