Primary tensioner
« on: 22.08. 2012 10:25 »
I wanted to confirm that there is /isn't anything that goes on the primary chain tensioner stud other than the lockwired castle nuts holding the Tensioner in place.
I have in the back of my mind there was a spring plate to give the tensioner some friction or spring tension that went behind the 'T' shaped part.
Should there be a part, its' part number that would assist greatly.
Many thanks
Stephen

There should be a spring plate. I've attached a pic which shows it and the order of assembly. The part number for the spring plate is 67-1263

What year is that parts book? My 1948 one does not have exploded diagrams, just pictures of individual parts.  It is one I purchased from BMS and covers all 1948 BSA bikes.

The scan of the complete engine is from service sheet 201.

The scan of the primary chain "tensioner" is from the 49-53 parts book.

As far as I know up until about 1950 they used those small parts books but from then on they went to the larger A4 size ones which are a lot easier to use.
