A7 Clutch

Hi,
I am writing on behalf of an old friend who is rebuilding a 1954 A7 engine prior to it's sale.  This will be a complete engine/gearbox, with carb, magneto etc.
However, part of this engine went missing several years ago.  The gearbox is bolted onto the rear of the engine crankcase.  He has the inner and outer chaincases and most of the clutch.  Can anyone please provide information, and if possible photos/Ilistrations of the parts that fit onto the gearbox shaft, and on both sides of the inner chaincase.
It seems that something is missing from behind the clutch chainwheel, which is the duplex chain drum.  We feel that there must be a part which will hold the rollers in place
The engine has the six spring clutch, which is fully enclosed in a domed cover.

In this case, maybe get the Spares book first, which will show all the parts and provide parts number for ordering from suppliers. If we knew where you are located, you could get some adresses from where to get the book(s).

I'm always baffled that someone would even think about attempting to do a
"..complete rebuilding of engine and gearbox..carb..."
without getting the relevant Manuals and Parts Books first.

But please come back Titch, when you've got the manuals.
I'm sure everyone will be more than happy to help you with any
problems you may encounter.

Must agree, you need to buy, at least, the parts manual with exploded views. It's less than $20 U.S. (actual well-spent money; read posts under topic "Spending Money"). It may be amusing to hear that British Only (before one could buy online through their website and before they sold off most of their BSA parts to Domiracer) required that I purchase or own a parts manual before they would deal with me. Nevertheless, my parts manual (for '55 swingarm) includes the exploded views for the semi-unit A7. Right now, I am on vacation until 8/3. If you can wait until I return home, I can scan the one page I think applies, but let's make it a one-time deal. Also, I yield to the Administrator to tell me if he thinks posting from original BSA parts manuals represents copyright infringement. (After all, mine is a photocopy sold to me by someone I doubt had any such particular rights.)

Re my original posting I feel that I may have misled you all.

I should have said that my friend is re-assembling just the clutch assembly on the A7 engine.  The remainder of the engine was rebuilt many years ago but was only 99% complete - Clutch parts missing.

We both have manuals for the A7/A10 models, including the Haynes manual, but these do not show the breakdown of a 1952 Clutch assembly.  However, I have now obtained an illustration of the clutch, and it would appear that the Thrust washer and retaining collets are missing.

Now all we have to do is to obtain these parts.  Hopefully, as we are in the UK, one of the specialist dealers may stock them.
