Tappet guides
« on: 24.05. 2012 00:56 »
Hi
My project bike engine arrived in pieces and I have identified the inlet and exhaust guides.
I cannot find a diagram showing where they actually fit having looked at the Haynes manual and the Draganfly webiste.
One has two sliding rods with a hole that I assume is screwed somewhere and the 'comb' has raised clips.
Any location of an assembly diagram appreciated.

Foolow up to my own message - I have just searched for tappet rather than tapett (!!) and saw the other post about the dual block - it is these two pieces that I am trying to determine their placement in the engine.
Again my thanks
Stephen

I assume you mean the cam followers. These go in the underside of the cylinder barrel casting.

This is the only picture I can find that shows them Stephen.

The single ones go either side with the double in the middle, there is a clamp that holds them in.

The pic Fido has posted is from the later "shortstroke" barrels.

On this forum go to BSA related links and service literature.
Then select All BSA service sheets
Then select bsawiki
Then select chapter 06
Then you will see the assembly about half way down.

Under no circumstances should you modify your barrels to look like Fido's. *smile*

Oooops, I suppose the clue was in the engine number. I didn't realise the longstroke ones were different though as I've never had mine apart. *red*
That's just a photo I found on here by the way, not my barrels!
