« on: 14.07. 2011 20:24 »
G'day all,

I am wondering if anyone here in Australia (and who make their own cables) tell me where they buy there cable the cable sheath lengths and ends from?

Cheers

I was just playing around with your inquiry from here in Chicago. Do you mean that none of the following (or the like) could not better supply your cable needs than a lawnmower shop?

G'day Richard,
I think Hubie just put western bars on so needs longer cables. Down here (and probably up there) most shops just want to pick a part off the shelf. And if you need a special just give a dumb look.
Hubie, have you tried http://www.remarcables.com.au/ or http://www.bmhstore.bmh.com.au/ or http://www.conwire.com.au/index.html
Cheers

Thanks boys,

Remar and conwire look like they need a contact.  I just want to buy the lengths of inner and outer cable plus the ends so that I can make them up myself.

Cheers,
Hubie.

Don't know exactly what you mean here by "contact". Maybe Musky has made my point, that there would be something better than a lawnmower shop. As far as what can be bought in Oz, I don't know what the hell I'm talking about, I was just having some fun. However, for a real selection, I think you could go to http://www.flandersco.com/FlanCableSearch.html , though, maybe no special BSA ends.  I would think the cost of an envelope of lightweight parts from California might be worth getting the right thing.

Thanks Richard,

When I said contact, I meant that I would contact them and see if they could supply me with what I need.  Conwire seems to be the go.  I just need to confirm dimension/thickness of inner and outer cables for clutch, brake and throttle cables and I can go from there.  Also have to buy a propane torch and some solder!

Uhhh,  man that was dumb of me to miss your, now,  completely clear twist of language. I'm sure there is a colorful Australian slang that describes people like me.  Thanks for not sharing it.

Give  Modak in Melbourne a ring. I never buy original cables because they rarely fit considering how rare it would be to have original spec levers etc etill fitted.

G'day Richard,

Dont know if that one was what I would call an 'Australianism'  *smile* but perhaps I should have said I'' email them or give them a ring!  There's plenty of aussie slang around here but I don't use it much owing to my dutch heritage (both parents) and I would certainly not besmirch my brothers from across the pond  *smiley4*

I spent a little bit of time in the UK on my honeymoon in 2003 and I loved the country and the people more.  Wish I had my Beezer then so I could have met a few of the chaps!

Cheers,
Hubie.
