Gearbox Cam Plates

I want to swap the reverse Cam Plate in my RRT2 for one from a STD box, can anyone please advise that this is actually possible before I start dismantling?

Yes, is the short answer!!
Can you confirm that your gearbox casing has 2 tapped holes for the index plunger?
It is fitted underneath for the STD box camplate and on top on the RRT2 (fitted with reverse plate)
When you fit the std plate you will have to swop the index plunger location
The STD gearbox casing is not normally drilled and tapped for the reverse plate
You will most likely have to remove the gearbox to perform the change, the selector fork rod is held in by a grubscrew at the sprocket side of the gearbox

Hi John, Yes the plunger is currently in the top tapping so I will have to swap position.

I was hoping to not have to take the box out but haven't yet checked if the shifter-fork-shaft grub screw is accessible, are you saying its not?

HI Goldseeker,
To access the grubscrew the inner primary case has to be removed
You can then (maybe) get a flat screwdriver bit into the slot and unscrew it??
At that stage another 5 or 10 mins and the complete box is out
Theres a lot to be said for Norton boxes in this respect where the shaft unscrews from the righthand side of the box!!

I have it on good authority that the position of the indexing plunger is very critical, if its slightly off centre it wont work. Ideally it should be set up in a jig to get it right.

Also, when the box is out of the frame replace the buried grub screw with something you can access without pulling the box out of the frame the next time.
