Gearbox Cover Plate Screws

Dear All,
As the rebuild continues I have a small problem caused by stupidity (as usual)..

When I took the box apart I forgot to note the position of the flat screw on the little oblong cover  / inspection plate on the side of the box.  I think the small screw ( the other 3 are taller shouldered items) goes nearest the centre of the sprocket, top rear lhs if looking at the box upright..

Can anyone confirm this for me otherwise there is a 3 in 4 chance of getting this wrong!!

Hi Adrian!

I think the flat one goes top right (kickstart side), but I'm not absolutely sure.
You may however check with the mounting plates. The flat head allows more adjustment travel, before hitting the plate.

Many thanks.. What you say makes sense & is supported by pics on Ebay of a couple of expensive refurbished ones at present!

Thanks to this topic I now know that the odd screw is not there because a previous owner lost one of the others. However, checking my gearbox I find it's in the wrong location and one of the taller screw heads is just 1/4" away from the mounting plate. Phew.
I'll change that at some later date but now it looks like I'll have to wind the gearbox forwards to have room to take the screw out.
