short gear lever
« on: 19.06. 2010 01:44 »
Can anyone comment on the use of shortened gear levers or for that matter the correct length of a gear lever for a swing arm model with stock pegs?

Admittedly the gearbox position makes quite a difference but my gear lever appears too long.
I'd be interested in knowing the length of a shortened lever as some illustrations appear to show these.

There are two levers which were used on the swinging arm models, as you have found, a short and long.
As far as I know, the long one was used until 1957 and the short one from 1958.
Short is 42-3010 and long is 42-3017.
When I get time to go to the shed I will measure them.

Rocket,
The short lever is about 4 3/4" overall and the long one is one inch longer.
