Introduction - new member saying hello
« on: 08.12. 2009 17:47 »
Hi there!

I am new to this great forum, so I thought it might be a good idea to introduce myself  ;)

My name is Markus, I was born in 1981 and I live in Austria, as you can see in my profile. I'm a mechanícal engineer doing research and development work for wind energy converters.

I started working on BSA twins one and a half years ago, when I purchased my A10 GF and did a complete nut-and-bolt restoration, followed by an A7 SS basket-case project. Both bikes are running now, so I have some spare time left for the forum  *smile*

I'm looking forward to get to know you guys here and exchange some experience.

Best wishes, MG

G'day Markus and welcome. Gee that was quick to do 2 bikes, most of us take years for 1. Can't wait to see photos. What year is the SS ?

Hello muskrat!

Have had a lot of help from my father, who is an artist in tin work, welding, brazing etc., while I was doing the mechanical and electric work (engine, magneto and dynamo rebuild).
The A7SS is from 1955, the A10 from '56, both retain their factory-fitted engines.
I will post some pics when the weather allows to bring them out again. Currently they are dry-stored in the garage, as it is snowing here (Yes, I DO ride on sunny days only  *smile*).
But I promise I will take a few "family-reunion shots" in spring.

Markus,

Welcome, from another corner. Very much interested in seeing the pictures of your collection. I must say, I wish I was one of those who can walk out to the garage and ask himself, "Hmmm, should I ride the A7, or A10, or the plunger, or the swingarm today?" I will try not to let my posts go too green with evny.

Another thing - it is interesting that we now have an Austrian member, considering British Only, Austria being such a significant seller of parts. I suppose you have used them quite a bit, maybe, know them personally.

Again, welcome.

Hello Richard!

Yes, been at BOA several times, always makes me feel rather depressed to see Mark's collection of bikes and spares. It's always worth a visit, Mark and his wife Christine are very friendly people.

Btw, I never planned to have two BSA twins, but after restoring the A10, I incidently stumbled upon the A7, disassembled to the very last screw, and just had to buy it, considering the price and the fact that it even has Austrian papers (had always been running here, until 1987), which saved a lot of fuzz with the local authorities.

Cheers, Markus

Hello Dave!

Sorry, probably not before spring comes. It's snowing and the bikes are stored in the very last corner of the garage, hidden under tarpaulins.  *smile*
But I promise to take a few pics at the first ride-out next year.

So no Elefant rally then? Which must be only miles away from where you live. I keep reminding myself that I'd love to do this rally, possibly next year as I keep saying, although I'll hopefully be running a sidecar outfit by then.

LJ - The "Elefantentreffen", as it is called in German, is held in "Loh bei Solla" in Bavaria, which is about 500km from me (approx. 300 miles), yet I've never been there, for lack of a suitable vehicle.

The main problem is that all our streets are full of salt, as soon as temperatures start to fall under 0°C at night, which was the case at the beginning of October already this year. And to be honest, I don't want to expose my bikes to this corrosive environment. So if you really want to go there, get yourself a sidecar outfit you don't care too much about, ideally one that is not in concours condition ;)
And don't forget to take a long piece of manila rope with you! Otherwise you won't make it to the campsite if it's snowing.
