Hey, everything's better with lube as they say!  *smiley4*

I still lube my bicycle chains in the old fashioned way using an old slow cooker on low and medical grade paraffin wax with a touch of graphite. The chains, ring gears and cassettes all last for years. The hot wax gets right into the pins and rollers then sets. As you ride the bike it slowly comes out and falls away carrying any dirt with it. The bike stays lovely and clean too. Here in 'stralia its pretty dry and dusty most of the time so using conventional wet lube is terrible. It just attracts dust and grit and all turns to a filthy black grinding paste.

I have two chains for each bike ( x3 bikes) and just swap them over every 300km.

Blimey, my old 5-speeds had to make do with a squirt from my old man's oil can when I thought of it.

... and me!  These days I use white grease in a spray can.  I apply when the chain's warm after a long run.  The grease has just enough time to seep into the rollers and pins before the solvent evaporates and it becomes semi-solid.  Fling off is much less than the gearbox oil I used to use. *eek*  Chain and sprockets on the GF are up to 12,000m so far with very little discernable wear.  Kwaka is sealed ring chain - bit of lube and 6,000m with two adjustments.

Semi fluid grease for my chains. It doesn't fling and stays on better than oil.
