Parts books '49/53 and '54/57 show these to be the screw in plugs  for the top of the Plunger Columns. Oddly not listed in the earlier catalogue numerical index, which is absent entirely in the later version.

A suffix /003 would be expected were they chromed from new. Reckon originally BZP or whatever was used on standard fixings back in the day. They do lend themselves to adding a quick bit of bling if you worked in a platers. Who has an original unmolested example?

When I found my old '54 Super Flash the column nuts (plugs?) were beyond service but were chrome plated. The plating could have been done as a 'tart-up',  (this was Hong Kong and back street platers were super cheap), but the plugs would have needed to at least have been made of steel to take the plating. In shape they were a bit different from what is sold today - I seem to remember they were knurled. I must still have them somewhere in a box of old bits - I'll see if I can find them.

My A7 came with dull cad plated top caps, while my ZB32 came with alloy caps.
The A7 has shiny stainless caps there now as they're readily available.

The original A10 plunger cap nuts were chrome plated on my 1951 machine.
Suggest you purchase stainless steel replacements, and solve the inevitable corrosion issues that chrome plated nut will end up with.
Usually cheaper than re-plating.
Try Barleycorn Engineering.
Have a happy day, the BSA way.

PS; always put coppercoat (or equivalent) on SS threads, to prevent galling.
