Wheel bearings
« on: 01.08. 2024 16:05 »
I am in the process of rebuilding my wheels on my 1963 bsa a10. I ordered bearings from supplier by bsa part numbers front 42-5819 times 2.
Rear 42-5819 times 1 and 89-3022 times 1. I received 3 off 6204-2RS and 1 off kSM  RLS8  2RS . These bearings I think are metric. Should they not be imperial bearings? Does anyone know the correct bearings for the wheels?

I had some problems getting the correct bearing as some suppliers have the wrong numbers, but I do believe BSA used a mix of imperial and metric bearings in the wheels.  Are they the right size?

Hi Rob one of the front bearings is a little slack but the spindle looks a bit worn. I am waiting on a new stainless one coming.

6204 is correct for the 2 x front wheel bearings on the iron full width hub, 6204 correct for the single bearing in the iron full width rear hub and RLS8 correct for the sprocket bearing.

6204 are metric bearings

RLS8 is imperial. Also listed as LS10.

 Handy Hint.

BSA Service Sheets 701, 702, 703, 704 contain the data relating to bearings, bushes and useful stuff required for successful rebuilds.  The bearing list (BSA Part Number cross referenced to commercially available bearings)  is maybe a little out of date regarding brands, but there is enough there to enable the source of something modern that will fit.

Find service sheets in Forum Literature Section.
