Carb fuel height follow up

G'day Fellas.
A few little problems. Both carbs set exactly the same and balanced. Left side blowing black smoke so it's rich. Lowered the fuel height a bit more but no better. Discovered the choke (enricher) sticking open or little rubber seal at the end of the plunger not sealing. A few years ago I changed from push/pull knobs to cable to the handlebars. Put knobs back in, all good. Reset the fuel height.
By now the carbs have been on and off at least half a dozen times. Now the right sounds a little off. Start her up again first kick and warm her up. Out with the can of WD and spray all the joints. Yep air leak at carb to manifold joint (by now I feel like a joint  *whistle* *grins*). Off with it again and the O ring came off in 3 pieces. No replacements in the box of bits so out with the gasket paper. Now waiting for the RTV silicon to set. Try again tonight.
Good job the weather has turned to poo and it's Kings Birthday long weekend. Used to be cracker night till the snowflakes got in!

Can someone tell me why two carbys are better than one?
I'd have a triumph tr6r over a bonneville any day.

G'day Olev.
2 cylinders, 2 carbs, 2 ex pipes. So if there's a discrepancy with 1 cyl over another it can be tuned out. My rHonda has 4 different pilot settings and 2 different plugs. And because the Cafe motor is the old race motor. I had a SR head to go on but it melted  *sad*
Then there's induction bias, some do some don't.
I'll be pulling out the colour tune over the weekend.

Good point, and I don't know the answer.  A friend of mine was involved in the Buncefield disaster - 20 tons of unleaded went up in one go.  One of the issues that surprised them was the force of the explosion, it was several times bigger than predicted.  It seems that the predictions were based on leaded and unleaded burns much faster and so you get a bigger over pressure.

Some say yes and some say no.

You can see the flame and adjust the mixture to make it yellow or blue, so the Colortune works to that extent.

You then find that your perfect blue Colortune mixture doesn’t give you best running and you have to adjust again, without the Colortune.  It was always like that, old petrol or new.

G'day Rex.
My colortune works fine with the non-E 98 fuel and the stuff I boost to 105. I like to set the mixture a little on the rich (yellow) side of blue. I haven't tried it with E10 as it's only 94. Everything I've got, mower, edger, whippersnipper, generator, bikes (except the HD) runs on 105 and a bit of R30 so I can enjoy the smell while I work  *whistle*
