Valve caps for early valves??
« on: 15.01. 2012 04:49 »
Does anybody have a source for the hardened valve caps that are described for the early longstroke valves? Or are they not needed, it's the one part I can't even find listed this side of the pond, maybe somebody like Russell Motors have them? Does anybody know of a good source for early A7 bits?
I've spent 15 years trolling e-Bay since it's formation, found a lot of good stuff, had a long-standing competition with a user named Zylboot who always seemd to b bidding on the stuff I wanted. Maybe he's a member here now?

Hi Vince, I have valve caps on the exhaust valves but didn't have any on the inlets. After years of running it like that it doesn't seem to make any difference to the valve stem tops. The tappet adjusters on the inlets are screwed in further to take up the difference but if you can get caps I would use them. I'm sure someone said previously they got some from C and D Auto or Dragonfly.
cheers Terry

If you put 'lash caps' or 'valve lash caps' in google there are quite a few aftermarket suppliers who sell these in various shapes and sizes. Hope this helps.

G'day Vinver, I bought new caps from Precision Shims, 8mm Ducati closing shims IIRC. I found him to be most helpful. http://www.precisionshims.com.au/?stg=41&view=41 Cheers Tomcat

Lo and behold, found some on e-Bay! One of the few parts I needed for my basket case re-construction.

 Revisiting this old thread.....

BSA early Parts list shows valve lash cap as 65 209, the same as fitted to some variants of B31.

Also found a Valve Dimensions Chart amongst Drags' Literature Section. Gives lengths, head size, stem diameter. Cross referenced by part number.

Alpha Bearings website also worth a look if it is still available. Firm is defunct as a trading entity, but tech stuff under the wing of Chris Williams' Autocycle.
