Yes, many years ago I seized a plunger A10, a big end bolt carved 3/4 of the way through the case with a crack showing on the outside.  I cleaned it up and set Araldite into the gouge.  Worked a treat.  My Land Rover rear axle has a badly welded diff pan, well brazed, probably by a squaddy in the 1970s, its got some pin holes in the brazing, plastic metal has kept the oil in for 10 years.

araldite has kept a betsy head fin or two on for 30odd years after an ex bird went round the shed with a 2lb ball hammer when we split up, the head has been on and off and all sorts of solvents on it over the years, it's a good job the tank was in the bedroom *eek* , maybe back in the day it was better than it is now just like everything else but i would go for it.

Some of these industrial adhesives are remarkable in their scope. Years ago I saw a portfolio of repairs with a "trade only" potion, one featured successfully blocking up a big hole in the crankcase of a Ruston Bucyrus dragline....... It was expensive stuff, but peanuts compared to the downtime and cost of an engine out replacement repair. Bearing housings being reclaimed also featured.

jules i remember an advert for araldite in the 70's and saying it could pick up 5tons, the head on betsy has three fins stuck that were broke completely off.  maybe elf and safety has had the good stuff removed from it.

Some good stories here!

Sounds like a bit of araldite should do the trick.

Cheers

I stuck a barrel fin on with Araldite many years ago. I don't know where it is now but the fin didn't come off.
