A7 fork damping
« on: 20.09. 2023 11:03 »
I'm considering buying these to eliminate the horrible fork clashing over bumps.

Anyone else tried them?

now I have these fitted and progressive rate springs and you know they still drive quite alot under braking and a bit noisy still. Maybe its because I have the TLS upfront I don't know?

They do help if you get it right. The fork oil level needs to come just above the hole in the valve when the forks are starting to be compressed.
. . . and the oil not too thick, so not sae 30 and above.

Not sure how well they work - I just tend to avoid braking and hitting potholes *smile* *beer* *beer*

G'day Rex.
Yes they do help, oil weight can be experimented with. As Roger said oil height is important.
I made my own for both my A's and sold a couple locally. I still have two sets in the cupboard.
The drawing to make your own is on the forum. https://www.a7a10.net/forum/index.php?topic=2895.msg19476#msg19476 by John O R

Progressive springs are a one size fits all band aid, you need to know what the spring rate you currently have is, then measure your sag and work out what spring rate you need from there if you want a decent result

Hi All,
Rex, Clashing can also be when the forks "top out" often made worse by the top fork bush being not held tight by the circlip, I wrote a post on shimming and my approach to it . it must be somewhere on here?
