Oil Filter Height
« on: 21.02. 2023 16:54 »
I am going to fit a Commando oil filter on the return pipe. Is it important not to fit it too high. Would in line with the oil tank suffice - too high and I guess the oil in the filter will drain into the tank.

Hi, Pat,
Decent filters have an anti drain facility built in. My bikes filter is at the top, inside of the toolbox and doesnt give any bother,
Oil returns as soon as the bike starts

For the filter to empty, air would need to be replacing the oil. Where is the air going to come from?

I have a s/a A10 and have situated the filter between the engine plates in place of the 'ski slope'.  This is virtually in line with the return to the oil tank and, in my opinion, is a perfect place for this bike.  I will probably have to disconnect it when changing filters, but this is no bother to me.  Some have the filter higher in the toolbox, which is an excellent idea and is good cosmetically, but I actually have tools and a regulator in mine, so no room.  Also, with the filter exposed, one may expect some additional oil cooling to take place.

Will post pictures when I can.
