Monobloc Carb Tops

My new 389 Monobloc has arrived from Hitchcock's (Burlen's - AMAL were out of stock), but when ordering I overlooked the variations in Mixing Chamber Tops available and got the wrong one . Hitchcock's being mainly Royal Enfield people perhaps were not aware of the specific BSA model requirements? Otherwise their service was excellent.
The new top is threaded for two cable adjusters, but my original is unthreaded for the two ferrules. The cables have inline adjusters. My 1960 Flash doesn't have enough space above the carb top for a throttle adjuster - I use a cable tie to prevent the cable kinking even now!
I suppose I could drill the threads out to take the ferrules, but a shame to stuff up a new part.
I have attached offerings for the three types offered by Burlens (AMAL) and wonder what models had what top types?
Maybe a good reminder for those thinking of a new carb to be aware when ordering.
A downside is that the new Monobloc has no identification number eg 389/45. If you pick one up in a few years, their will be confusion and delay (as the Fat Controller says)

Vaguely related this a neat solution, just throwing out ideas…… old “v” type brakes on pushbikes use cheap to buy 90 degree tube sections called “noodles” that could be used to improve the throttle cable arrangement.

Possibly you could screw a 90 adjuster into your carbs, and make up a special cable with the adjuster?

Had the same problem with the amal on the front cyl of my M21V2. Close to bottom of tank and so the cable never sat in the ferule properly. Indeed, cable came out of carb around 45*. Worked like that for around 30yrs though...  Just recently been playing with that carb because the front cyl has started running lean. I've now fitted a bend as Kiwi describes - it has an adjuster one end and is plain the other where it drops into ferule on carb. Had to turn up and solder a brass piece to the plain end, though, as the bend was too sloppy in the carb.
Another 'unusual' was the section of the carb O ring - all the amals I've seen / owned have an O ring of approx 1/8" section. This one is smaller at 2mm so have had to order one.

Trev, I would like to keep the old carb intact, at least until I know it is unrecoverable. I'll send it in the new year.
