I wondered that too but looking on line for service kits there only appears to be one size - Unless it's from a different model?

Hi ALL,

Just bought a new Amal carb for the Gold Flash,. I measured the pip on the cover and found it to be 3mm above center on the cover. Fitted my Perspex cover and the fuel level was also 3mm above the float chamber center line. Maybe it was a coincidence but could it actually be that the pip on the cover does indicate the correct fuel height.  *wink2*

Yes - everything I have read indicates the pip is the level and that's where I have mine set now which seems to be the optimal position.
I spent a bit of time fiddling and its pretty much spot on now.

float needle - two types one brass the other viton tipped (rubber like subsatnce on pointed end of float).
I suppose it's possible the viton tipped ones could show some wear, but really is this or a couple of mm difference in the level in the float chamber going to make much if any difference to running, consider what happens on a long bend when you tip it over?

I ask because I'm doubtful but open to any education (and there's plenty in here)

Must be 3 types because mines all plastic  (white in colour). I was thinking of buying a new float and viton tipped one to see if it made any difference.

I realise this is an ancient thread, but what's this about weighting floats etc to adjust fuel height? What's wrong with adjusting the float valve seating by changing the thickness of the fibre washer? I believe you can even buy shims to replace the fibre washer for fine tuning of fuel height.
