ZA7S rocker boxes
« on: 23.11. 2022 20:52 »
This is the rocker boxes set-up on my Star Twin engine.
I was wondering if you gentlemen with long stroke engines have the rocker box straps, 67-63, fitted.
I have had a few of these engines over the years but this is the only one which has the straps.
Most likely they were discarded when the engines were overhauled.

Well I don’t know but I did not see straps like this in the parts boxes when I built my YA7 LS. A good friend of mine has a ZA 7 engine, shop art he calls it, he claims came out of a bike and never been apart but I don’t remember seeing these. Curious.

Illustrations of the early engine do feature these steady straps. The parts book for 1949 shows them pictured on page 21, the description is on the previous page. Just a pair of flat steel strips and likely to be found at the bottom of the parts washer when the rest of the engine had been assembled, the tank on and the customer ready to collect.
