Study the gearing from the motor, top right, through to the flywheel.

Are you willing to contribute to the £ 5,000,000 it would cost to move & reinstall it in another purpose built hall plus the   £ 5,000,000 it would cost each year to keep it in running order ?
The biggest single cost per annum for the powerhouse museum at ultiomo NSW was the only fully functional Boulton & Watt steam engine lesft on the planet .
The costs were so high that they have finally decided to decommission it and are looking at fitting a hidden electric motor so visitors can see the wheels spinning and some fake steam .
Even the cost of keeping things like the Fairlight music generator opperational works out at over $ 1,000 every time it is fired up , and the Fairlight is probably the most significant invention in the history of music
If you have a record collection or have been to a live concert in the past 20 years you have been listening to a Fairlight .

I needed to find out about the Fairlight:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairlight_CMI

Why does it cost $1k to run?

Apart from the fact they are all very old computers, no idea .
It used to be run once a month and it was run for most of the day.
They even allowed to odd onlooker to have a fiddle .
There is an earlier music machine, that I can not remember the name of that was used to accompany silent movies that ran of a pianola roll on steriods
It had drums , cymbals, some flutes as well as the panio and that is in the same boat.
Last on left on the planet but now too expensive to maintain.

ask a steam buff what it costs to keep a loco running and then you will undertand why we went to electric trains.
