1963 a10 centre stand
« on: 31.12. 2023 13:44 »
Anyone know difference from pivot centre to ground for a10 centre stand
part no 42-4761 and part no 42-4731
I think that one is from a b40. That is the stand which is on my a10. The back wheel on the bike is still on the ground when on the stand. I have a few repairs to do on the stand/supports so would prefer to put the correct stand on if there is much of a difference. Hope you all have a good new year and thanks for all the great info you have given me since I joined.

The number 42 4731 which appears on the stand leg is just the forging number for that leg only. It appears on my A10 leg and on early A65 right legs.

Stand 42 4761 is fabricated from 4 different parts, each of which has its own number (which dont apear in the parts lists) and when assembled are part 42 4761.

My '61 A10 stand measures aboit 9 inches from base of foot to centre of pivot.

Cheers Julian
Mine measures 9" as well, looks like I will have to come up with something else to lift back wheel off the ground.

  • Last had an A10 in 1976, in 2011 it was time for my 2nd one. It was the project from HELL (but I learned a lot....)

Is it possible the stand is ok and it’s just the stops (or pivot holes) are worn so it goes too far over centre? They should stop at  past vertical, but not so far past that its difficult to get them off the stand. A pic would help.

The late 1960s A65 stand fits the A10 BUT the extension shape prevents the fitting of the left side silencer so can only be used with a 2 into 1 exhaust. Photo shows a trial fit to my 1961 A10 (with 2 into 1 exhaust) . It is tight to the rear chain case and quite hard to raise the bike onto it. So i rejected it.

This photo shows my A10 fitted with an A65 stand from around 1964/65. Same exhaust issue with this one, but not a problem with the 2 into 1 fitted, easier to use than the later A65 type, also easier than the original A10 type. So it is staying on the bike. Now just need to sort the prop stand so I can operate it whilst still on the seat.
