Parts Bike Wanted!!!
« on: 19.10. 2021 19:49 »
Im looking for a  parts bike for my 1952 BSA A10 Golden Flash. Parts are hard to come by so even if you don't have a parts bike any pointers on where to buy parts would be helpful
Thanks

Is there such a thing as a parts bike these days? The value of A7s/10s means that most incomplete wrecks are rebuilt rather than broken.

i guess you could say that but rebuilders have to get their parts from somewhere.

If you are interested on selling your spares, i would like a genuine clutch cable (no third party), the spark plug holders and a seat. The seat is lower on the agends as mine only has a rip in it, but i want my bike perfect.

Perfect? There are 1,000 definitions. Mine is of course perfect according to me but not according to the rivet counters.

We don't know we're born! There must be a greater choice of new and used parts these days than ever before. From dealers' new old stock to repro stuff of dubious quality it is all out there... plus used and discarded parts that turn up, and that's only the stuff advertised. Bikes are asleep all over the world just waiting for their turn to be restored or stripped down and the parts recycled.

ebay is a good place to start, along with autojumbles, bike shows, spread the word, go prospecting. Forum trade and service suppliers are all worth a look.
Non runners, abandoned projects, no papers, damaged, vandalised, barn finds or dumped these bikes attract almost as much as a tatty but complete runner, and there are plenty of these "Just back from the States"  Here it's the depth of the pocket that is the stumbling block. The downside is that as values increase, more parts come available as the economics make more sense, but this is no longer the cheap hobby of my youth.

As for perfection, it's a hiding to nothing. You can't ride it without worrying, go for a static display bike that will cost a whole lot less to build up.

 Swarfy.

I guess your right, but for me, perfect replicates how i want my bike kept to me, and that means no rips in the seats.

Have you considered just getting the seat recovered?

Try Leightons for your seat.

The days of parting out these classics is largely gone other than a few "Butcher shops" on ebay, I wouldnt sell you one of mine to be plundered for parts, nor to a "Butcher shop" "Slaughter house" or eBay sharpie.
I try to carefully vet potential buyers of projects when I sell, And I am downsizing, But I get mighty angry with those who waltz in, and expect the world to cater to their needs. Not to be unpleasant here, But I want to be sure someones going to BUILD a bike, not tear it apart.  Theres literally warehouses full of orphan parts,. THATS your sources,, not destroying history.
