Hot stuff

This is happening about a km away from our house. It's been burning since 10:30 and it's still burning now at 3:30. I don't know all the details yet but I think a tank of something inflammable went up. There were some loud explosions to begin with.

I wondered if it was that but no, Google Earth shows a couple of storage tanks in the area where the fire appears to be.

Thank you, Google Earth.

If you look at the newsreel, the whole building is going up.

I imagine we will read all about it later. One person is missing.

The fire brigade have laid out about a kilometre of 6" high-pressure hose along our road to pump water from the canal. We are not allowed to drive over the hose so I've had to reluctantly park my new car elsewhere for the night. 😢

Look at this stunning photo of the smoke over the town

The high pressure water feed from the canal has been in use all night and is still being used. I was told by one of the policemen guarding the roadblock at the end of our road that the fire service are concerned about safety at the site; "They may have to evacuate the area".
