TT John's copper rocker gaskets

G'day GB.
You don't have to get the whole gasket red at the same time. Get one corner red then move the flame slowly to progress the red around the gasket till you get back to the start point. Quenching is optional (only works if the whole gasket is the same temp), a quick rub with steel wool removes the oxide.

I haven't either; only from the oil feed banjo's. I read that the copper gasket helps locate pushrods; if so, I'm going to try them next time the top is off.

Hi Paul,
 I have been reluctant to remove the rocker box bottom studs in case I wreck the thread.
Any difficulty getting the studs out.? 
TT John has put a copper gasket in the post for me so worth doing.

I'm sure you know this already but... Just lock two nuts together fairly tightly on the stud and unwind it using a spanner on the inside nut. If it's a bit reluctant warm the ally casting and try again.

Does a copper gasket get thinner and thinner over time?

Not really, copper compress very little to none at all...I base this on the copper head gasket on my race Triumph that has been used and annealed many times with no change in thickness.
 I do know if the head and rocker box surfaces are not true you may have trouble getting a copper gasket to seal
