conrods
« on: 05.07. 2021 21:24 »
My '58 GF has obviously thrown a rod at some time, as when I rebuilt it I found the crankcases weren't a pair and neither were the rods. This winter I intend stripping it again to modify the balance, as vibration (which starts just under 50mph) takes the shine off chasing it through the gears. Whilst I'm in there, and given the rods aren't a pair - together with my mistrust of alloy rods anyway, especially old ones  - I intend fitting new ones. I appreciate billet rods lack the durability of forged ones but, given there appears to be several makes available, are there any preferences as to which may be best?  I'm not in favour of H section rods (ie Carrillo type) and never understood the reason behind the design, but that still leaves choices..........

  • Last had an A10 in 1976, in 2011 it was time for my 2nd one. It was the project from HELL (but I learned a lot....)

Thunder rods, they used to supply SRM, I have them in my A10 SJ engine. They were much cheaper than anyone else when I bought them (9 ish years ago).
