I guess that explains the reason why we see so many plunger air filters hacked is due to the lack of room behind the carb to fit another type of air filter?

I’ve always wondered why they are so often missing.
I suspect people people just got cheesed off with them.

It will if matched to a free flowing exhaust and jetting. Just won't last long in dusty conditions.
