Clutch center spacer

Hi Everybody,

Just about to start fitting the clutch.  The old one was a 6 spring steel pressure plate with a bent steel inner drum and the new one has a 4 spring ally pressure plate with a cast inner drum.  They are totally different but have worked out (I think) how it goes together.

Job 1 is to fit the clutch center onto the gearbox shaft (taper fit with a key).  I have a thick spacer washer some 5 mm thick with a large internal chamfer which I am sure goes on first.  Problem is I can't work out which way the chamfer goes.

The clutch center is a very tight fit on the shaft and I don't have an extractor so would kike to get this one right first time

I'm a bit confused by your questions??
The taper adaptor should sit onto the gearbox shaft taper without force 
the inner drum can be a tight fit over the adaptor, try it on each spline in turn and you may find a "best fit"
The thick washer goes inside the centre nut and holds on the clutch ?
A lot of centre nuts supplied are undersize and need a tap run through them

Thanks for that.  All makes sense now and I can put it together with confidence.

John, you were right about the nut.  The old nut spins onto the shaft perfectly.  The new nut manages one turn and then jambs solid.  Checked the pitch and that's correct.  It's just under size!  Tap required to clean it out.

And Berger, thanks for clarifying the chamfer direction.
