Clutch plates 1952 A 10 Plunger

Hi guys
Another silly question:
As per the parts list,the bike has a dry clutch with a total of 6 steel plates & 5 friction plates.This includes the thick first steel plate.
If I install all these plates, the last steel plate attached to the spring plate does not come on the clutch centre splines as there isnt enough room.
I suspect that the plates may not be OEM & of a different thickness. Does anyone have the correct thickness of the steel plates ? Or any other suggestions. Cannot lay my hands on the original plates as they are just not available. Any help / info would be greatly appreciated

Hi Anji,
this seems to be a common enough problem with pattern clutch plates!
You could try assembling the clutch with 2 less plates (1 steel and 1 friction)
If the pack is then too thin you can add in the extra steel plate

Contary to popular belief you can omit just 1 plate, as the friction & plain plates run in different splines.
2 plain plates together will be exactly the same as using 1 thick steel plate as far as the clutch is concerned.
It was common when I were a tad younger ( OK well a lot younger then ) to slip the thinnest steel plate back in the clutch to "pack it out".
Cant do the same thing with pre WW II clutches.

Thanks for the advice. Couldnt work over the weekend as I was laid up with the Flu, but will get cracking on the clutch tomorrow. Will give you a feed back asap. Thanks
