Alf, you are between a rock and a hard place.
You could use the 4:1 tacho but would have to replace the drive box with a 2:1 type.
Are you looking for a chrono or magnetic type?
Chronos seem to about but are extremely expensive and magnetics are getting pricey also.

trev, i would prefer a chrono but its not essential as i just want to have a accurate reading as the way it's set up at the moment its showing 2000 rpm at tickover and double the revs when riding as the rev counter only go to 8000 rpm its a problem i could do without!
regards alf.

oh forgot to say the drive box is mounted on the timing casing and run off the mag!
regards alf.

Hi Alf,

Difficult to get hold of, but i can give you a great tip, if you can get hole of an old Speedo of the same style A E Pople will build you a revcounter to your requirement as he did for me. Will supply you a new built one if you like too, but that would be a bit costlier.

I supplied him an old A10 speedo and he rebuilt it as a rev counter for about £100, but please be aware he is not the fastest service!

Hopes this helps

Alf,

I wonder if this is the tach you've been looking for:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Smiths-Chronometric-8000RPM-Tachometer-BSA-Triumph-AHRM_W0QQitemZ140336978523QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item20acbc5a5b&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245

I'm not really sure, so please confirm in any way you can. Perhaps others here will be able to say if this is a 2:1 BSA model or a 4:1 Triumph model. In either case, it looks like it needs some refurbishing, and in the case of it being Triumph, it makes good bones for the refitting of ratio gears inside it.

I later noticed this one, as well:
