A10 Rear Brake Shoe Conundrum

Can I have some help Guy's. I need to replace the rear brake shoes on my 1962 GF (it's the wheel that has the 4 bolt flange fitting) and looking at the Parts Manual for that year it quotes part number 42-5876.

So onto our well known Auction site armed with my part number I purchased a 42-5876, item delivered and doesn't fit  *pull hair out* the shoes that I received had different width ends, the fulcrum end too narrow and the other end too wide. My existing shoes are 16mm wide at both ends.

Has anyone had the same problem and if so, does anyone know what the part number is for replacements please?

Had exactly the same problem, the parts number on those shoes are wrong.  Send them back under the "Distance selling regs" as its no quibble refund in under 14 days.  I had mine on the shelf for 6 months so I checked the numbers, corrected them and re-sold on e-bay.
You need the fully floating shoes, same as Triumph Trident / Rocket 3.
Search these part numbers, they are quick easy to get, Check, the new shoes may come with the pads.

Hi limeyrob, thanks for the info. I checked out the shoes for a Trident, but they don't look like the ones I have. They are flat at both ends and mine is flat at the cam end and U shape at the fulcrum end.

That's because they are now "fully floating"

The conical hub 7 inch shoes will not fit the A10, the conical cam has a thicker cam.

Below is an A10 rear fitted with floating shoes as described in the service bulletin.

Yes its the Trident and Rocket 3 earlier hub not the conical:

They come as a pair even though each shoe has its own part number and they all seem to come with the steel shoe cast on.

Cheers Guy's, thanks for the info. I will try to source them tomorrow, I know that Dragonfly have them but they are expensive £40+. I have a couple of other options to try as well.  *yeah*

I think I paid about £25 for min earlier in the year. I found it was cheaper to do a web search and get the Triumph part number and then search for that as they were consistently in the £25-£30 range.

Hi All,
I'm sure this topic came up before a few times?
I found that pattern shoes had thinner linings than BSA fitted originally, so the brake arm angle winds up wrong , then the brake is sh1t no matter what you do *eek*
I got the original shoes relined with oversize linings, Then turned them to size in the lathe.
I altered the cable to get the actuating levers working at their best angles . The results were a rear brake that could lock the wheel if you needed to.
Villiers services look to be a better/ cheaper option than buying new?

That cable / lever geometry is a pain. I ended up getting a 57-2062 and 57-2063 Triumph clutch cable ferrules.  These are quite substantial and allow adjustment of the rear brake cable to get the lever right.  I think the short one was enough.
