k2f points side bearing
« on: 25.06. 2018 20:51 »
Hi i have just fitted new bearings to my magneto but on removing the points side bearing i decided to use a small grinder to remove inner ball race as it was tight and i did not want puller to damage brass spindle, the inner race also had a ring pressed on after which all but fills the hole where the spindle comes through for the points plate.
the bearing is tight on the spindle but i have looked at exploded views of the magneto k2f goldflash  but none show this ring(dragonfly website) do we just leave it off ? where can i get one,  anyone eles  had this ? *conf*

cheers martin

Hi,
You need to get the proper puller to remove the bearing, they are not too hard to make up
The ring outside the bearing is needed
You will also need to get the insulating paper star washers, these come in two thicknesses

The collar is Lucas part 455340 show in illustration below from the 1963 BSA Lucas equipment list.

I would leave it off until you have shimmed the armature - you may have to pull off the inner race to shim behind it.

It is vital that the race is pressed on square (and the outer pressed in square) or the accuracy of timing may be compromised

I usually refit the collar.

Hi,
Quote
this has given me some endfloat

Endfloat should be zero, as close as possible
