Introducing myself
« on: 02.02. 2018 15:46 »
Been lurking for a while. Just about to embark on the refurbishment of my 1954 A10 Golden Flash (swinging arm model). I've owned the bike since 1975 when I bought it on impulse for £40 a few moments after it blew up in the careless hands of the previous owner. The rebore cost £16,50 all in with +40 pistons and it has run well ever since - once I discovered solid copper head gaskets!

Anyway, it's now in need of a good deal of tidying up, it never was very smart and has never been close to original spec in my ownership and will probably stay a bit of a bitsa. In my yoof I made a feeble attempt at converting it to a cafe racer for which I made some rearset pegs and controls, hastily giving away the original footrests and brake lever (qd wheel type) so if anyone has some or all of these parts I would be very interested in hearing from you.

Hi Chas and welcome to the forum from another newbie.

Like you, I'm restoring a Golden Flash but a plunger framed one. I guess your GF must have been one of the first with a swinging arm? I look forward to hearing all about your refurb. Unfortunately, as I'm sure you know, prices have gone up a tad since you bought the bike. But it'll be worth it in the end and the help and advice on here is priceless!  *smile*

Welcome to the net's best forum! I've got a '54 chassis building a bitsa as well. Good luck on that brake pedal. Took me a good while to find one and had to pay stupid money to get it. As I recall, it's the same as the Gold Star. Easy to find short ones for use with rearsets. Not so easy to find the touring version.

I was hoping that with all the RGS replicas out there a few touring sets would have come onto the market but it seems not.

I have plans to fabricate some footrests so may have to do the same with the brake pedal.
