It should mount on the aluminium air filter body.

also thought in 1971 it was mounted to air box. But if you need the heat sinc 68-9428 we have them in stock.
Note prices are in AU$

Yes I have also heard they are mounted on the ally airbox very recently, but where exactly. I bought this bike in bits, anyone got a photo of it in place as it's not in my two manuals. My airbox is in the paint-shop at the moment. . many thanks.

I'm thinking all the ones I've seen have been on a different style heatsink (kinda cone-shape), mounted on/under the bottom triple clamp
...
Just had a search, and the noes I'm thinking are Trihard, but I've seen them on Beeza's, Photo borrowed from ebay:

I didn't expect BSA to show the bigger heat sink ,one of my memories from selling them was the number of Zenner diodes that fried . certainly Dutch is right re the trumpets there's was under the steering head it wasn't til the suplier was forced to change that a more reliable type was fitted .

........ the ones I've seen ......
Obviously if they were stashed on the airbox, I wouldn't see them ....I just had a look at the parts lists out of curiousity, and seems the '68 - '70 ones had a flat type one under the bottom yoke, so maybe the ones I saw had been adapted as aftermarket.
Tbh, I don't care much at all, but good luck with it A10 JWO

The pictures of the air-box mounted diode tells it all and is greatly appreciated. Certainly one of the best forums about. I have no real problems when I restore complete bikes as I take photos and label parts in clean clear plastic bags. Buying one in boxes can be a pain, however I enjoy forums as well.
