Vokes oil filter cleaning
« on: 02.06. 2009 14:29 »
Hello all.
This should be a busy month down in Hampshire. Lots of run outs planned, including a trip to the new W Sussex BSAOC branch tonight. Estimated 120 miles round trip.
Anyway with all these miles I will be needing to do an oil change soon. This will include cleaning the Vokes oil filter element for the first time. This is as fitted to the WDB40 and near identical Daytona A7 machines (so on topic). Any tips as to how to clean this element please?
A real bonus would be to find a regular source of new elements. Found a new one in wrappings at a jumble for £2 but anyone know of a regular stockist?
Thanks

They are a standard item still available from British Filters

Thanks Trevor
I will contact them for stockists or buy direct.
Easy & safer to get a new one, rather than messing around cleaning the old.
BTW lovely ride through Hants & Sussex early summer scenery with a couple of mates all on twins *smile*.
Cheers

In case it is of interest here I have had no joy sourcing my filter element. Got the following from a reply from Lee Mitchell, who runs the WDB40.com site:

"The problem you have is that the Vokes and british filters are different filters and as a consequence so is the filter element.

Another problem is the Vokes elements are unavailable, but the british filter ones are, usually about £10
I am still looking to find something that will do the job in a Vokes filter so will keep you posted if I sourse anything."

Will have to look to modding the nearest modern equivalent I think.

Sorry about that.
Only ever come across the ones that take the British filters .
I have several some with different tops ( different numbers in casting ).
So there was the assumption that they were all common.
The other alternative is to replace the Vokes with a British Filters unit.
