aligning push rods when replacing rocker boxes

Hi,

I'm trying to replace the rocker boxes, but am having difficulty aligning the push rods. From a related post I'm aware that the "comb" 67-9114 doesn't work for the long stroke engine. Could anyone advise the best way of aligning the push rods, please.

It's quite a while since I did one, Peter, but I seem to recall that the holes in the head gasket pretty well lined the pushrods up and it wasn't too difficult to get the rods home.

As I replied on the other thread - I use the comb tool with no issues. Takes a bit of learning to get your own method sorted as space is limited bet ween the 2 rocker boxes. If I am not mistaken, I do the inlet side first and for exhaust side you have to angle the comb upwards to avoid the inlet rocker.

One thing I do is put some grease into the little cups on the rockers and also the cup on the bottom of the push rod. This helps to create a suction and hold the push rod in place once it is seated.

When you get the comb, lay it on some stiff plastic like a shirt box lid ( showing my age am I ? ) and cut one out of that.
use the flexiable comb to do the pushrods then it will bend enough to be withdrawn.

Just fitted pushrods back in my 1960 A10 with a bent piece of copper earth wire. That worked a treat, and grease in the rocker cups. First time I have done this and apart from the difficulty seeing the exhaust rocker cups I finished the assembly in about ten minuets.
